What is a Defined Contribution Health Plan?

How Does It Work?

  1. Let’s say you decide to spend $100/month ($1200/year) on each employee’s health insurance plan.
  2. You choose the menu of plan options.
  3. Your employees then shop for the plan that best fits their needs with the money you have allocated for them to spend.
  4. If they want a more expensive plan, they make up the difference in cost through payroll deductions.
